Based on the DPME Master-Class Reference: How IMPEC Strengthened Government Capacity

by | Feb 25, 2012 | Latest | 0 comments

How IMPEC helped build internal capacity for monitoring, evaluation, and shared learning across South African departments

This post is based on the DPME Master-Class reference, a collaboration between IMPEC and South Africa’s Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME).

In this 3-day Master Class, IMPEC trained 70 moderators from national and provincial government departments to lead internal improvement initiatives. The focus is on strengthening the use of monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge exchange as tools for improved governance.

 Key Results:

  • Moderator Training: Participants learned to identify and document examples of good government practice within their departments.

  • Knowledge Tools: IMPEC introduced a digital Knowledge Information Tool (KIT) to visualise self-assessments and support peer learning.

  • Culture of Reflection: The program helped embed a habit of continuous improvement and interdepartmental collaboration.

This Master-Class shows how practical training, supported by the right tools, can empower public sector professionals to take ownership of their progress — and inspire systemic change from within.
